Corey Lewandowski Mocks Story of Girl with Down Syndrome Separated from Mother

When Democratic strategist Zac Petkanas discussed a story about the girl with Down syndrome who had been taken away from her mother at the border, Lewandowski interrupted saying: "Womp, womp".

"Did you just say, "womp womp" to a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome being separated from her mother?"

Lewandowski promptly responded with "womp, womp". Petkanas said, incredulously. "How dare you".

Lewandowski, who was sacked from the Trump campaign in 2016 but has since regained the president's support, stood firm on his stance Wednesday morning as criticism of his comments grew.

Lewandowski, who was briefly a CNN commentator after he was sacked from the Trump campaign, said no one wants to see parents separated from their children, but placed the blame on the parents for entering the country illegally.

"The Mexican government in no way promotes illegal migration", Videgaray told reporters at a Mexico City news conference.

When Pentkana called him out for mocking the plight of a 10-year-old girl with a genetic condition being separated from her mom, Lewandowski refused to back down. Their father, a legal U.S. resident, is working with the United States consulate to get the girl released.

He said that the Mexican government was working to have the girl released so she can be reunited with her father, who is a legal USA resident. "Of course, this case in particular we have pointed it out to the American authorities at the highest levels". As children can not be held in adult facilities, families are broken up.

Among those who immediately condemned Lewandowski's comments was former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who tweeted, "There is no low to which this coward Corey Lewandowski won't sink".
