Chelsea Reportedly Target Dries Mertens Amid Maurizio Sarri Rumours

Chelsea news Roman Abramovich Antonio Conte Luis Enrique

Chelsea and Villarreal are reportedly set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Napoli centre-back Raul Albiol.

If Sarri is appointed manager at Chelsea, he is keen to target some of his former players, including Senegal worldwide defender Koulibaly.

And Chelsea aren't the only club with an interest in the forward.

The highly-rated 23-year-old is already thought to have been offered, and agreed, a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge that would net him around €3.5m (£3m) a season - equivalent to just over £50,000-a-week.

Sarri has been strongly linked with the Chelsea job, under the assumption that Antonio Conte will leave this summer.

"They [Chelsea] can expect nice football because he is a very good coach".

"I'm disappointed that he leaves like this but we have now a big coach (Carlo Ancelotti)". I hope he [Sarri] can win something with Chelsea.

Rugani is also believed to be open to a move, given that he has struggled for game time under Juve coach Max Allegri. I think Chelsea fans will enjoy the style of football he plays.

Mertens is reportedly viewed by the Italian as an ideal player to line up on the right of a front three despite having played centrally during his time at Napoli.

Conte's future at the club has been a relentless source of speculation all summer due to the Blues' disappointing fifth placed finish last season, and it now appears that Sarri will be the man to take over at Stamford Bridge.

The Mirror UK reports that Sarri wants to make Mertens his first signing as Chelsea manager.

Mertens was one of the best players for Napoli last season as the Serie A side finished second in the league.
