Xi Jinping praises Kim for Trump summit

Kim concluded his China visit late on Wednesday and departed Beijing for the DPRK.

The meeting between Kim and Xi came on the North Korean leader's second and last day of his latest visit to Beijing, where he briefed the Chinese president on his summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore last week. Kim was referring to Xi's capacity as head of the Communist Party.

Emphasising that it was their third meeting in three months, Mr Xi said the two countries have "opened a new chapter" in the development of their relations, said CCTV's report.

Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Seoul-based Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said Kim and Xi were likely seeking "common ground" following the Singapore summit. It was a clear sign of the restive state's ambitions to boost its economic engagement with Beijing, analysts said.

'We want to have a constructive relationship with the government of China.

The president said the meeting with Kim was "wonderful." but the media refuses to cover the summit in an accurate light. The North Korea dictator toured a lab run by the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), and stopped by a Beijing rail traffic control center - the first step, perhaps, in the shift to "economic construction" that Xi praised, per Xinhua.

In 2003, during his first stint as premier, he introduced the controversial "July 1 Economic Measures".

"They've shifted the focus from anti-Americanism to improving agriculture, sports and boosting the local economy", he said, adding all the anti-American posters he usually saw around Kim Il Sung Square and at shops in Pyongyang have been removed.

During their last China trip, to Dalian in May, several members of the North Korean delegation visited the Donggang business district and state-owned electronics manufacturer Hualu Group.

Hwang who has been a guide on the northern side of the Demilitarized Zone that divides the two Koreas for five years says that since the summits between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the presidents of South Korea and the United States, things have quieted down noticeably in perhaps the most iconic symbol of the one last place on Earth where the Cold War still burns hot.

US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Tuesday that in coming days North Korea would hand over a "sizeable number" of remains to United Nations Command in South Korea, and they would then be transferred to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insisted during a cabinet meeting on Thursday that North Korea will follow through on the Kim regime's vague promise to denuclearize - otherwise, he reasoned, totalitarian dictator Kim Jong Un's worldwide reputation could take a hit.

The North Korean leader also promised during a meeting with Xi in Beijing to cooperate with Chinese officials to secure "true peace" in the process of "opening a new future" on the Korean peninsula, it said.

Even among Republicans, just 25 percent say they're very confident that North Korea will eventually agree to a deal to give up its nuclear weapons.
