Rampant Mexico put Korea to the sword

Donald Trump Jr.'s four-year-old daughter Chloe was threatened

Edson Alvarez was brought in as centre back for Mexico's World Cup Group F game against South Korea on Saturday in the only change made by coach Jose Luis Osorio after the Latin Americans defeated defending champions Germany.

Javier Hernandez hit his 50th global goal as Mexico edged closer to progression from World Cup Group F with a 2-1 victory over South Korea.

The opening penalty was just one of 14 spot-kicks awarded in the tournament so far - more than in the entire 2014 World Cup - with many pointing to the newly-introduced VAR as the reason for the spike in penalties.

"Regarding plays related with Mexico's second goal, we watched the video this morning and concluded that there was a foul on Ki Sung-yueng before Mexico won the ball", the official said ahead of national team training in Saint Petersburg.

While they would have been expected to beat their Asian rivals rather than springing a surprise in their first game, Osorio insists they put more work in to prepare for South Korea.

Group E concludes on Wednesday, when Mexico play Sweden in Ekaterinburg and Germany play South Korea in Kazan.

Hernandez and Carlos Vela scored a goal each at Rostov Arena.

"We are very excited, honestly, with the support we are receiving", he said with the whole squad behind him. In midfield, they lack a dedicated creative force, preferring the hard working Hector Herrera and Andres Guardado.

Carlos Vela (26th minute) and Javier Hernandez (66th) had earlier handed Mexico a 2-0 lead.

Their opponents Mexico, however, were no easy prospect, having shocked Germany in their own opener.

The South Koreans know anything less than a point will quash their dreams of qualifying to the next stage of the World Cup after a 1-0 loss to Sweden in their first match.

Heung-Min Son pulled one back for South Korea at the death, but there was no time for them to get the needed goal as the match ended 2-1 in favor of Mexico.

The success of Mexicans has caused their fans so excited that before the game with the Koreans in Rostov-on-don, the football team had to... appease their fans chanted hotel under the names of their lubitel.

And it is clear why they had to resort to that with El Tri completing 13 of their 21 take-ons against South Korea, adding to the 16 they completed against Germany.
