[BREAKING] Croatia Vs Denmark enters penalty shoot-out

Croatia's Luka Modric had the chance to send his team into a quarter-final against hosts Russian Federation with a penalty four minutes from the end of extra time but Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel dived to his left to save the spot kick.

Modric, who has already scored two goals, will be expected once again to pull the strings for Croatia from midfield.

Luka Modric and Thomas Delaney in action. In addition to scoring a superb long-range strike against Argentina, Modric has been outstanding in Russian Federation, as has fellow midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Croatia have won all their Group D matches, including a 3-0 hammering of Lionel Messi's Argentina.

82' - Croatia's Mateo Kovacic takes a hard fall and immediately grabs his right shoulder.

Josip Pivaric (for Strinic 81) - 5 - Brought on for the tiring legs of Strinic and filled in at left-back comfortably. But he scored one in the ensuing shoot-out, with Croatia triumphing after Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic scored the decisive kick.

Andreas Christensen - 4 - Played in an unorthodox midfield role, the Chelsea defender struggled to stamp his authority in the middle of the park as Croatia's midfield trident dominated the ball, and he was subsequently subbed off at half-time.

66' - Substitution: Denmark's Nicolai Jørgensen replaces Andreas Cornelius. He limps off the field just before halftime.

Dejan Lovren nearly got the second goal for the Croats seven minutes before the break with a glancing header that sailed just wide of the upright.

29' - Two great chances for Croatia (first a shot by Ivan Rakitic and then one by Ivan Perisic) are defended well by Denmark. In goal is Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel. We're back to a draw.

Modric's opposite number Eriksen promptly missed Denmark's first penalty, with Milan Badelj repeating the trick with Croatia's first. Christian Eriksen crosses it in the middle but the goalkeeper makes a comfortable save.
