LeBron James agrees to 4-year, $154M contract with LA Lakers

Private jet that went from Cleveland to Caribbean headed to LA

Last month, Gary Payton fueled up the Los Angeles rumors when he revealed that Lebron's 13-year old son had committed to playing at Sierra Canyon High School next year.

LeBron James has finally settled on his new destination, signing a four-year, U.S. $154 million (AUD $208 million) deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The four-time MVP is clearly the biggest free agent on the market and the rumour mill exploded imminently following the announcement, with the Lakers and Sixers being the most likely discussed destinations for James' next chapter.

But the Warriors obtained Kevin Durant after that loss and Golden State have gone 8-1 against the Cavs in the two NBA Finals since.

It appears that those hoping LeBron James would be joining the 76ers squad are in for some disappointing news. The Lakers are considered strong candidates to sign James, but he also has an offseason home in L.A. The deal is a four-year deal worth $154 million. Only, when he returned to the Cavs in 2014, he said at least four times he would not do this very thing - leave the Cavs again.

The Los Angeles Lakers would certainly have the capital to sign Cousins, especially after Paul George opted to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder rather than make his expected move to Los Angeles. The Lakers are still reportedly looking into trades with the Spurs to land Leonard, who reportedly plans to join the Lakers in 2019 when he becomes a free agent.

James leaves the franchise as its leader in almost every major statistical category: games played, points, rebounds, assists and steals.

The other title, for the 2016 season, went to the James' led Cavaliers.

It's probably a little overzealous to say James is done making decisions based on basketball reasons, as many (especially in Philadelphia) have been happy to do.
