Julius Randle agrees to two-year deal with Pelicans

Rajon Rondo

Almost an hour and a half after it was announced that the Los Angeles Lakers renounced Julius Randle, the forward agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans. If the Lakers elect to re-sign Randle, they are able to go over the cap to sign him.

Deng's $36 million salary would then be paid out over five seasons.

A Randle-Davis pairing will work similar to the Cousins-Davis pairing last season.

He'll certainly earn the two-year contract extension he received in early June.

He has increased both his scoring average and field goal percentage in each of the last three seasons, coming in at 16.1 a night on 55.8 per cent from the floor last season in 82 games for the Lakers. They topped the Trail Blazers in their first-round series before falling to the Warriors.

Since it looks like the Lakers are building a superteam with LeBron and the new stars to support him, there's a good chance Rondo will meet up with his former team in the 2018 National Basketball Association finals.

Since signing James to a four-year, $153.3 million deal on Sunday, the Lakers have also reached agreements with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee, according to ESPN reports. Randle requested the move, according to a report from ESPN. In the years since he left the team in the 2014-15 season, he's only spent one year with each subsequent squad. Add that to blossoming long defenders in Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram, and with James orchestrating the defense as a free safety, Walton has a potentially formidable defense that finished 12th (105.6) in defensive rating last season. The latest star to sign with the team in less than 24 hours of LeBron's announcement is Rajon Rondo.

Still, with the scoring prowess the Lakers have on their side, a point guard that can distribute the ball as well as Rondo is a pretty important addition.
