Trump says North Korea talks 'going well', lashes out at critics

US National Security Adviser Bolton has said the weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles could be dismantled in 12 months

"Nuclear Showdown" author Gordon Chang and national security analyst Morgan Ortagus on President Trump's meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. But U.S. intelligence agencies believe Pyongyang is concealing an unknown number, including smaller tactical nuclear weapons, in caves and other underground facilities around the country.

Pompeo will travel to Tokyo after Pyongyang to discuss the denuclearization of North Korea with Japanese and South Korean officials, a statement from the State Department said.

"The expansion suggests that, despite hopes for denuclearization, Kim Jong-un is committed to increasing North Korea's stockpile of nuclear-armed missiles", Schmerler said.

This comes on top of a Washington Post report that us intelligence believes the North Koreans are planning to hide the number of warheads in their arsenal.

The Trump administration, for its part, clings to the unsafe delusion that North Korea has agreed to give up its nuclear weapons in return.

"The president is essentially taking North Korea's side", he said Tuesday night. Bolton added that it would be to the North's advantage to cooperate to see sanctions lifted quickly and aid from South Korea and Japan start to flow.

The Defense Intelligence Agency believes that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has no intention of engaging in a full denuclearization program, at least for now, according to an administration official familiar with the agency's finding.

"I don't want to comment on that specific report", Bolton said.

"It has not. Physically, we would be able to dismantle the overwhelming bulk of their programs within a year", Bolton said.

Possible venues for a second meeting would be on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September in New York City, or at an Asian economic summit back in Singapore in November.

13 Jun the us President said that the nuclear threat from North Korea no longer exists. "We're well aware of what the North Koreans have done in the past".

"Ambassador Kim had a meeting just yesterday with members of the North Korean delegation, and Secretary Pompeo will be headed to North Korea later this week", she said.

Kim's past declarations have been suspect, so that's when "we'll know if this is a different North Korea than we've seen in the past", he is quoted by Axios.

"There's not any starry-eyed feeling among the group doing this", he added.

The Stanford team has proposed a 10-year roadmap, based on its belief that "North Korea will not give up its weapons and its weapons program until its security can be assured".

At their Singapore summit last month, Trump saluted a North Korean general, agreed to end USA military drills with South Korea, and emerged with a vague agreement that North Korea would work toward "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".
