With Pruitt’s Departure, More Than A Quarter of Trump’s Cabinet Has Changed

NYT's Maggie Haberman Lists Probable Reasons Why Pruitt Is Still in Trump Admin

Widespread disgust for Pruitt "should serve as a blaring red siren for the Trump administration", Udall said. The reason Pruitt persisted so long is the same reason why his environmentalist foes shouldn't break out the organic Champagne: The administrator was doing exactly what his boss wanted.

Prominent media critics that Trump likes - including Laura Ingraham - said Pruitt was the "swamp" and needed to go. In recent weeks, top aides and EPA staffers resigned, as Congress continued to probe Pruitt's apparent misdealings.

At the time of his resignation, there were more than a dozen inquiries related to Pruitt's conduct by the EPA's Office of Inspector General, the House Oversight Committee, the Government Accountability Office and other watchdogs.

"The unrelenting attacks on me personally, my family, are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all of us", he wrote to Trump, in his letter posted by Fox News.

"We were pleased to defeat him in court recently", Janeway added, referring to recent rulings that ordered the EPA to take action to curb acid rain and smog in the Northeast caused by Midwest factories.

President Trump announced EPA chief Scott Pruitt had resigned on July 5.

Aides are suppressing an Environmental Protection Agency report on formaldehyde, Politico reported Friday, even after Pruitt told a Senate panel that it was complete. The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington-no fan of Pruitt-offered a one-word statement: "Good".

"Wheeler is much smarter and will try to keep his efforts under the radar in implementing Trump's destructive agenda", Jeremy Symons, vice president for political affairs at the Environmental Defense Fund told Politico in May of this year. He said EPA Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler would become acting chief of the agency on Monday.

According to The Post: "The Trump administration appointees described an administrator who sought a salary that topped $200,000 for his wife and accepted help from a subordinate in the job search, requested aid from senior EPA officials in a dispute with a Washington landlord and disregarded concerns about his first-class travel". Among his other clients are the uranium mining company Energy Fuels Resources, the utility Xcel Energy, the biofuel firm Growth Energy, and the liquified natural gas company Bear Head LNG-all of which are regulated by the EPA.

Mink said she hopes her lunchtime interaction with Pruitt "empowers everyone who'd like to speak to their public officials - if you have something to say, say it".

During his time as a congressional staffer, Wheeler worked as a senior aide to Republican Sen. As was reported a few months ago, Wheeler, the acting head of the EPA, is a longtime coal lobbyist who questions the validity of climate change. "Americans will not tolerate another EPA administrator whose primary goal is to fight the core mission of the EPA". "Thank you again, Mr. President, for the honor of serving you and I wish you Godspeed in all that you put your hand to".
