PM Modi Will Inaugurate World’s Largest Smartphone Factory in Noida!

Noida now has the largest mobile factory in the world

The new facility will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in landing together at a quickly-prepared helipad adjacent to the factory.

Built on 32 acres of land next to Samsung's (SSNLF) original factory in India, the plant will allow the South Korean firm to almost double the number of smartphones it makes in India every year from 68 million to 120 million by 2020.

Samsung is without a doubt the biggest name in the Android world, and so if you are considering purchasing a new phone, logic dictates you may be looking to pick up a phone made by the ...

Established in 1995, Samsung India laid the foundation stone of Noida plant next year.

Xiaomi is also building up its presence in India, where its cheaper devices have appealed to price-conscious consumers. The current mobile phone manufacturing unit was added in 2005. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also accompany Moon during the inauguration of the Samsung plant, world's largest mobile factory.

PM Modi along with South Korean president Moon Jae-in will be inaugurating the facility in Noida at 5 pm Monday.

"This is an important step towards making India a manufacturing hub", the prime minister said of the USD$750 million factory investment. "Altogether, over 400,000 people are working in those units and Samsung is spearheading this with a workforce of 70,000 people", Modi said. Currently, there are 40 crore smartphone users in India.

"I have hopes to raise Korea-India relations to that with the four major powers surrounding Korea to match India's global standing", Moon said.

Samsung India, that registered 27 per cent growth in mobile business revenue for the financial year 2016-17 - accounting for a whopping Rs 34,300 crore of its reported Rs 50,000 crore sales - won't be able to hide the smile when the new facility kicks off production from July 9.

Previous year in June, the consumer electronics major had announced that it would invest Rs 4,915 crore to double its manufacturing capacity for smartphones and refrigerators at its Noida plant.

In 1997, the plant started manufacturing televisions, and in 2003, expanded to manufacturing refrigerators. "India is going through digital transformation and I encourage more companies from South Korea to come and invest here", Modi noted. More than 120 local factories now assemble mobile phones and accessories like chargers, batteries, powerbanks and earphones in India, according to tech research firm Counterpoint. India is the world's second-largest smartphone market, sitting below China and above the United States.
