Trump's ex-lawyer fires what could be a warning shot

President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani says President Trump did nothing wrong in his dealings with Michael Cohen and isn't anxious about testimony he might give to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer for President Trump, said Sunday that Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen "should cooperate with the government".

A day after he tweeted "I will always protect my POTUS" in April, the FBI raided his home, office and hotel room as part of a probe by federal prosecutors in NY into his business dealings. "As long as he tells the truth, we're home free", said Rudy to George Stephanopoulos. But Mr. Giuliani later struck a more combative stance, saying he should only agree to such a meeting if federal prosecutors made clear the role played by a suspected informant said to have approached Trump campaign aides.

He was asked how he might respond if the president or his legal team came after him and tried to discredit the work he did for Trump over the last decade.

Giuliani used the interviews to question the integrity of the Mueller probe, which is tasked with investigating Russia's efforts to interfere in the 2016 election, and whether or not the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian Federation.

The sources made it clear that, in his interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC two weeks ago, Cohen carefully chose the areas to distinguish himself from the President: First, one source said, "why did (Cohen) say I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation?".

While several other top Trump staffers have been interviewed in the Russian Federation probe, the administration is cracking down in part because of allegations of bias within the special counsel team, Giuliani said.

"My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will", Cohen said. "What I do know is, there's no evidence of wrongdoing with President Trump". By demanding an unreasonable amount of information from Mueller and his team, Giuliani is trying to make the public believe that it is Mueller's fault that Trump is not voluntarily agreeing to meet with him. He said that the White House required not evidence of a criminal deed but at least some factual basis supporting suspicion of a crime.

"We're pretty much decided we are waiting for a decision of the counsel", Giuliani said, adding that there needs to be "some basis for investigation".

Giuliani also repeated previous assertions that the Mueller investigation is biased.

Davis, who served as special counsel to President Bill Clinton, joined the legal team of Cohen last week alongside former federal prosecutor Guy Petrillo.

In his interview last week, Cohen said Trump "simply accepting the denial of" Russian President Vladimir Putin that he didn't meddle in the 2016 USA presidential election was "unsustainable".
