President Donald Trump to visit Windsor on United Kingdom tour

Trump balloon appears before UK visit; embassy warns Americans to keep heads down

Mr Trump and his wife Melania landed at Stansted on Air Force One at 1.50pm local time before a helicopter took them to the United States ambassador's residence in London.

Demonstrators have lined the streets outside Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire where Mr Trump and his wife Melania are attending a black tie dinner.

Mr. Trump, however, suggested before leaving a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels on Thursday to head for London, that Britons in general agree with his policies, in particular his tough stance on immigration. "I'd like to see them be able to work it out so it could go quickly, whatever they work out".

May emphasized in a statement ahead of the visit the UK's "special relationship with the U.S". Trump will travel by helicopter once there, making it unlikely he'll see protests firsthand.

Asked about Trump's comments, May said: "We're delivering on the vote of the British people to take back control of our money, our laws and our borders". The first lady will remain in London on Friday when protests are set to take place.

"We need to ensure there is a balance between protection and public safety and the public's right to peacefully protest".

A YouGov poll released on Wednesday found that 77 percent of respondents had an unfavorable opinion of Trump and just 50 percent thought his visit should have gone ahead.

Sarah Elliot, chair of Republicans Overseas UK, was there to welcome him.

British law requires any petition supported by more than 100,000 people to be considered for parliamentary debate, even though there was no serious attempt to prohibit Trump from entering Britain. There was no vote and no ban was imposed.

Blenheim Palace is the birthplace of Winston Churchill, one of Trump's heroes and whose bust is on display in the Oval Office.

His "America First" policies, including the decision to pull the USA out of the Paris climate accord and the nuclear deal with Iran, also have brought him into conflict with Britain's leaders over substantive geopolitical issues.

While he is in London, Trump will have tea with the Queen and talks with Prime Minister Theresa May.

A statement on the U.S. embassy website warns USA citizens to "be aware of your surroundings (and) exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent".

The National Police Chiefs Council said rest days for officers had been cancelled and many would be working 12-hour shifts during Mr Trump's visit.

'This isn't just about mocking him.

Ahead of Trump's arrival, the United States embassy advised USA citizens in London to "keep a low profile" during Trump's visit.

Sarah Elliott, chairwoman of Republicans Overseas UK, told CNN she did not think Trump would be fazed by the stunt.

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership".

Ignoring all diplomatic niceties, the convention-shredding United States president set up the four-day visit with a rebuke of May as she battles to stop her government falling apart over Brexit.
