Pop singer Demi Lovato has been rushed to the hospital in L.A. for a suspected heroin overdose, TMZ reports.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to CNN it received a call at 11:22 a.m. for a medical emergency, and transported a 25-year-old woman to a local hospital. HELLO! have contacted Demi's rep for comment.The Confident singer has been open about her own struggles with depression, eating disorders and substance abuse in the past.

She apologises to her parents before singing in the chorus, "To the ones who never left me / We've been down this road before / I'm so sorry / I'm not sober anymore".

They most recently broke up due to their intense schedules and after realizing she needed to work on herself and that they were better off as friends.

Demi revealed in a documentary entitled Simply Complicated in October previous year, that her substance abuse started at the age of 17 when she first took cocaine.

Lovato, who was a regular on "Barney & Friends" filmed in North Texas, attended Grapevine High School and Cross Timbers Middle School, where she shot her music video for the hit song "Waitin For You".

Even before that, Demi Lovato has always been vocal about her struggles with addiction and other problems like bipolarity, in an attempt to bring awareness. "There is no one more honest or courageous than this woman".

Messages of support from the singer's friends and contemporaries, like Kesha, Ariana Grande and Lily Allen, poured out on Tuesday afternoon.

She had just performed in California on Sunday. "Thank you for your prayers and please continue praying for her full recovery both short and long term".

Lovato's show in Atlantic City, N.J., set to take place on Thursday at Atlantic City Beach, was scrapped following her hospitalization.
