Old anti-Obama tweets go viral after Trump threatens Iran

Trump's tweet Sunday-in which he warned Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to "NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN"-came after Rouhani said pursuing hostile policies against Iran "will only lead to regret".

Mr. Rouhani scoffed at Mr. Trump's threat to halt Iranian oil exports and said Iran has a dominant position in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping waterway.

"You declare war and then you speak of wanting to support the Iranian people", he told the U.S. president, adding "You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran's security and interests".

Both the tweet and the speech landed less than two weeks before the administration will begin re-imposing sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal. "But the latest statements by Iranian officials, including one about the increase of uranium reserves and new centrifuges, are also aimed at signaling to Europe that Tehran would resume and develop its nuclear program if European powers fail to respond to Iranian demands about saving the nuclear deal", according to him.

Tweeting in almost all capital letters late at night in the United States, Mr Trump respondent to President Rouhani's threats, saying the U.S. is "no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence and death".

"All members shall refrain in their worldwide relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations". But it remains to be seen whether the forces behind those protests can converge into a mass movement, especially as US bellicosity provides the regime with ample fuel to rally its people against enemy forces and justify a rising tide of crackdowns.

In his tweet to Rouhani, Trump had threatened "CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE" if Iran continued to threaten the United States. Help Israel with he Iranian Hezbollah.

"To the regime, prosperity, security, and freedom for the Iranian people are acceptable casualties in the march to fulfill the Revolution", Pompeo said Sunday night at the Ronald Reagan National Library in Simi Valley, California. "We will resist pressure from enemies". Iran has rejected talks with the US, and Rouhani has accused the USA of stoking an "economic war".

Under the Trump administration, the USA has taken an increasingly hostile approach toward Iran.

"I think they are panicking in Iran today", said Danny Danon, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations.

Iran "is run by something that resembles the mafia more than a government", Mr Pompeo said, citing what he called Iranian leaders' vast wealth and corruption.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the administration will never stop calling out Iran for its human rights abuses, religious persecution and fomenting of terrorism.

In May, Mr Trump stepped back from Barack Obama's Iran nuclear deal, which restricted Tehran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for lifting worldwide oil and financial sanctions.
