West Bank village prepares for homecoming of Ahed Tamimi

Palestinian teen Ahed Tamimi returns to West Bank after 8 months in Israeli jail

At the same time, Tamimi and her mother Nariman were taken from the Sharon prison inside Israel to their home village of Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank after serving their sentences.

"This is a huge relief for Ahed Tamimi's loved ones, but their joy will be tempered by the injustice of her imprisonment and the grim knowledge that many more Palestinian children still languish in Israeli jails, many despite not having committed any recognisable crime".

They left prison on Sunday after an eight-month sentence for slapping two Israeli soldiers, an episode captured on video that made Tamimi a symbol of resistance for Palestinians.

The confrontation reportedly erupted after Israeli forces shot Tamimi's cousin in the face with rubber bullet earlier that day leading to her anger.

In Nabi Saleh, supporters welcomed Tamimi home with banners and Palestinian flags planted on the roof of her home.

In 2012, Istanbul's Basaksehir Municipality granted al-Tamimi the prestigious Hanzala Courage Award for defying Israeli soldiers who had just arrested her brother.

Israeli Deputy Minister and former ambassador to the US Michael Oren rejected all the attention her trial garnered.

The curly-haired teen was greeted in her West Bank village with cheers from fellow activists and extended family, and photographs showed a tearful Tamimi embracing relatives.

"From this martyr's house, I say: resistance is continuing until the occupation is removed", she told reporters. Her case has trained a spotlight on the detention of Palestinian minors by Israel, a practice that has been criticised by worldwide rights groups.

"All the female prisoners are steadfast". Local human rights groups say more than 300 minors are now being held.

A Border Police spokesman confirmed the arrests and said the suspects had attempted to flee in their vehicle.

The separation wall cutting the West Bank off from Israel is filled with graffiti in support of the Palestinian cause.

They are being transferred by the army to the Palestinians territories.
