Injured After Aeromexico Flight Crashes Following Takeoff

More than 48 were left injured including the pilot who suffered a serious injury.

Aeromexico said it was aware of an accident involving one of its planes flying from Durango, Mexico, to Mexico City.

The left wing of the twin-engine jet initially touched the ground, causing the plane to lose both of its engines.

An accident has been reported at the Guadalupe Victoria Airport in Durango, Mexico.

"Our first priority is to ensure the security of our passengers and crew on board this aircraft", the airline said. An Aeromexico jetliner crashed while taking off during a severe storm, smacking down in a field almost intact then catching fire, and officials said it appeared everyone on board escaped the flames.

During the frantic seconds after the crash, passengers - including children - are heard yelling as they scramble to escape from the broken, smoke-filled fuselage, which is quickly engulfed in flames.

A girl who suffered burns was also hospitalized, he said.

According to reports, Mexico's transport minister said 97 passengers and four crew members were on the flight.

"You have less aircraft that are running into mountaintops" because of systems that warn pilots if they are close to the ground, said Mark Millam with the USA -based Flight Safety Foundation.

Aeromexico said in a Wednesday morning Twitter post that 64 people had been released from hospitals.

Vettel sees hope in Hungary despite qualifying woe
The Briton has won five times previously at the Hungaroring, but never in a year in which he has gone on to take the championship. "I was pleasantly surprised how nice the auto was in the wet, because that definitely hasn't been our strongest point".

The Embraer 190 has been involved in only one fatal crash, which occurred when a Henan Airlines flight overshot a Chinese runway in a 2010 accident, according to a summary by the Aviation Safety Network.

Officials say it is too early to say what caused the crash, but investigators are expected to look into wind shearas a possibility.

Rescue personnel work at the site where an Aeromexico-operated Embraer passenger jet crashed in Mexico's northern state of Durango, July 31, 2018, in this picture obtained from social media.

Meanwhile, the plane's pilot is in critical but stable condition.

"Many managed to leave the plane on foot", Mr Cardoza said.

Dozens were injured, Durango state officials said, and it appears that a strong wind brought down Flight 2431.

Representatives of Embraer SA and the maker of the plane's engines, General Electric Co, are also assisting, Fonseca said.

The plane had tried to take off in a severe storm, but smacked down on its belly in a nearby field.

Photos from the scene showed dark smoke rising from the scene.

The web site Planespotters.net said the Brazilian-made medium-range Embraer 190 was about 10 years old and had seen service with two other airlines before joining the Aeromexico fleet. "I vow that the crew and all passengers are well", he wrote.
