Judge Temporarily Blocks the Release of 3D Gun Design Plans

The suit contends that the hard-to-trace plastic weapons threaten public safety because they are a boon to terrorists and criminals

Congressional Democrats have urged President Donald Trump to reverse the decision to let Defense Distributed publish the plans.

Mr Trump tweeted he is "looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public", adding he "already spoke to NRA".

They discussed the dangers of the 3D printed guns and the legislation to address it.

With more than 4,500 downloads as of Tuesday afternoon, the most popular blueprint on the site appeared to be for "the Liberator", a single-shot.380-caliber handgun made nearly entirely of 3D-printed plastic.

On Tuesday, before the court decision, the States Department Spokeswoman said, it'll be a hot topic.

3D printing is expensive and time-consuming, said Dukes and it costs more than buying a legal gun. The judge sided with Washington and other states, which sought the restraining order.

"As a former federal prosecutor, I know untraceable and unregulated 3D-printed guns present a real danger to the residents of Seattle".

Josh Blackman, an attorney who represents Cody Wilson, the founder of the nonprofit that planned to post the instructions, said the restraining order violates protected First Amendment rights.

The company's website had said downloads would begin Wednesday, but blueprints for at least one gun - a plastic pistol called the Liberator - have been posted on the site since Friday.

Scientists discover 'giant liquid water lake' on Mars
There have been various reports over the years of finding evidence that water ONCE existed in large quantities on the Red Planet. And today it has been announced that scientists have discovered large pools of liquid underneath the planet's polar ice caps.

Since then, the information has been downloaded over 1,000 times.

The president seemed to express surprise.

Speaking to CNN's "New Day" shortly before Trump's tweet, Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was killed in the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting in February, said the ability to download blueprints for the firearms doesn't make sense. They (Democratic attorneys general) figure if they blame Trump for everything, they can get a win. "The administration supports this almost two-decade-old law, and will continue to look at all options available to us to do what is necessary to protect Americans while also supporting the First and Second Amendments".

"Americans have the right to this data", he told the Inquirer and Daily News in a Sunday night interview. "And not just any firearms, untraceable firearm", Menendez said.

Regardless of what a person may be able to publish on the Internet, undetectable plastic guns have been illegal for 30 years. A federal law passed in 1988 - crafted with NRA support - bars the manufacture, sale, or possession of an undetectable firearm.

The eight states and the District of Columbia argue that permitting people to make their own guns violates state controls over weapons.

"These unsafe files would allow anyone - including terrorists, domestic abusers, felons, fugitives, and juveniles - to print untraceable assault weapons using a 3D printer from the comfort of their own homes", said Attorney General Grewal.

Unlike traditional firearms that can fire thousands of rounds in their lifetime, experts say the 3D-printed guns normally only last a few rounds before they fall apart.
