Manchester United are close to signing Barcelona defender

N’Golo Kante

N'Golo Kante could become the highest paid player at Chelsea after being offered a new deal.

Interestingly the Times state that the deal on the table would be for five years, nearly doubling Kante's existing wages and taking him clear of current top earner Eden Hazard, who is now on £220,000-a-week. If the French worldwide signs, he would become the highest earner at the club.

The new contract would see Kante's pay nearly doubled from his present deal ― £150,000 a week ― which terminates in 2021. Last season Kante won the FA Cup and entered legendary status in this summer by lifting the World Cup with France earlier in July. Arriving at Stamford Bridge as a tireless box-to-box midfielder, the French global steadily progressed into a more dynamic player under then manager Antonio Conte, improving his ball distribution skills to go along with his fine defensive attributes.

The Ligue 1 club are understood to have their own agreement with Mina's uncle, and as such Barcelona may choose to allow the Colombian to leave for France instead.

PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe revealed he spent the World Cup encouraging Kante to join him in Paris.

According to the same story, Mina's impressive performances for Colombia at the World Cup in Russian Federation caught the attention of Jose Mourinho, who is now keen to try and bring him to Old Trafford. Should he sign the new contract, he will eclipse Hazard, who is on £220,000-a-week, as the club's highest earner. Like Kante, Hazard has been the subject of interest from other clubs, most notably Real Madrid.

Chelsea have no intention of letting him go, though.

The deal will make the World Cup victor the best paid player on their squad, even ahead of Eden Hazard.
