Brian Urlacher puts on gold Hall of Fame jacket for first time

Pompei Just like in his Bears career Brian Urlacher was fast and thoughtful in his HOF speech

In fact, he will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday on the first ballot, becoming one of only six wideouts to accomplish that feat.

"And when they ostracized me and tried to keep me from what I rightfully earned not once but twice, I remember the text, " Owens said, referring to his mother. "He (Gailey) chose not to bring me back, and I knew I could still have been a productive player".

Although there are a lot of former Browns that were fan favorites in Cleveland, most did not put up the production in their careers to give them a chance in the Hall of Fame.

This year's class includes linebacker Ray Lewis, wide receiver Randy Moss, contributor Bobby Beathard, linebacker Robert Brazile, safety Brian Dawkins, guard Jerry Kramer, linebacker Brian Urlacher and wide receiver Terrell Owens. "I have already reached out to you guys individually, and I expressed, and I will express it again, my utmost respect for each of you and for what we have accomplished".

Owens used part of a speech lasting about 39 minutes to explain why he was in Chattanooga instead of Canton, addressing the "elephant in the room". Across 16 seasons, Owens played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

The wide receiver who ranked second in National Football League history with 15,934 yards receiving and third with 153 touchdown catches didn't mention that Hall of Famers Dan Fouts and James Lofton also are on the selection committee. He portrayed himself as misunderstood.

"I love you, too, " Owens said. You showed me how much I loved the game.
