College basketball coach pleads not guilty in punch that killed tourist

"Wake Forest Athletics Director Ron Wellman has placed assistant men's basketball coach Jamill Jones on leave".

Jones is accused of punching Sabor Szabo after Szabo knocked on the window of Jones' vehicle last Sunday in Long Island City. The coach got out, followed Szabo to the sidewalk, clocked him and sped off, police said.

A Florida man visiting New York City for a wedding died this week after he was punched during an altercation over a mistaken Uber ride.

Jones emerged from his SUV and punched Szabo, who fell to the ground, hit his head and later died at a local hospital, according to police and court documents. Dominic also told the paper that his brother probably thought the auto was an Uber. NY police sought out the public's help on social media after the incident.

USA Today reported Jones turned himself in Thursday.

Jones is "hoping and praying that he'll be able to continue at some point with his life", the attorney said.

His lawyer, Alain Massena, described the incident as a "tragic accident".

A person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press that Szabo may have been drunkenly knocking on auto windows before Jones allegedly confronted him.

Jones was arrested and charged on Thursday for assaulting a tourist in Queens, per a police report obtained by Sports Illustrated.

Jones was released without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 2.

Szabo, also 35, was "super outgoing, friendly, and an incredibly smart businessman", said his company, What If Media Group, based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The district attorney's office would not comment on whether there would be additional charges.

Wake Forest assistant coach Jamill Jones was arrested Thursday and charged with assault. The Philadelphia native graduated from Arkansas Tech in 2008.
