'Multiple fatalities' in Canada shooting

Canada shooting: Four dead in Fredericton as gunman on the run | Daily Star

At least four people have been killed in a shooting in the city of Fredericton in eastern Canada, according to police.

Several other victims were being treated at a regional hospital, but there were no immediate details on the nature of their injuries or their conditions.

In an online video posted soon after the shooting, LeBlanc said he was woken by a police officer wondering if he might have been involved in the shooting.

A tweet from the Fredericton police was sent at 6:35 a.m. local time on August 10, it read, "Fredericton Police are responding Brookside Drive area".

"It sounded like the first one came from right outside my bedroom window ... Shut up!" Then the bullets began to fly, first in a volley of two, then another of three.

"Of the four people killed in this morning's shootings on Brookside Drive, two were Fredericton Police officers", tweeted the force's official account.

The area he's called home for a year, which features houses, a school and other hallmarks of a peaceful residential community, is the last place Hrubeniuk said he expected to encounter a risky situation.

About five minutes later, he could hear similar noises near his home. He said he looked out his window and saw the body of a man on the ground, in the back parking lot of 237 Brookside.

A memorial for the two slain officers has popped up at the police station in the city's downtown.

No names have been released at this time as police have reiterated to the public that they are still involved in working an active incident.

"He is phenomenal as a father, he is very generous with his time and loved my children just as though they were his own", she said.

"I'm glad I'm not in Fredericton", LeBlanc said. "It is a real shock but I'll get calmed down". "During this hard time, our thoughts are also with the courageous women and men on the front lines working to keep us safe", Gallant said. He said he dropped to the floor of his apartment and stayed there until the all-clear was given. "It sounded like it started in the courtyard area", he said. "I am scared to death", she said. I'm angry. I don't like the violence.

Numerous emergency service vehicles can be seen on the residential road.

'Please stay away from the area. Locals have been advised to avoid the area and remain indoors with their doors locked as a search continues. The quiet residential neighborhood, which has houses, grocery stores, a church and an elementary school, is the last place Hrubeniuk said he expected to encounter a unsafe situation.

Violent crime is relatively rare in Fredericton, which rarely makes lists of the country's most violent cities.

"I'm a little speechless to be honest with you", Magnussen told CTV News Channel.

"It has been a very hard day for our officers and residents of our fine city as we come to terms with the violent deaths of four of our people".
