Koepka holds off Woods to win 100th PGA Championship

Gary Woodland leads US PGA

"I'm going to be there either way", said Woods, whose final-round 64 on Sunday left him two shots back of Brooks Koepka at raucous Bellerive Country Club.

But it was hard afterward to not wonder if Woods left a few opportunities on the Bellerive Country Club course Saturday afternoon that would have made the task a tad easier during the final round of the PGA Championship.

It looked curtains when a par putt horseshoed agonisingly out at the 14th but back came Woods with a tap-on birdie at the 15th. Woodland, tied for third with Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler at 9 under, three strokes behind leader Brooks Koepka, is paired with Tiger Woods today at 1:35 p.m. and that' just fine with him. "The beginning of the back nine, I could hear all the roars".

In so doing, Koepka became just the fifth man to achieve this notable double and, given the other four went by the surnames of Sarazen, Hogan, Nicklaus and Woods, that's the company he has now joined. His 72-hole score of 264 set the PGA Championship scoring record and matched the major championship record set by Henrink Stenson at Royal Troon in the 2016 British Open.

In only his fourth start of the year and less than six months on from acknowledging he may never play again, Woods thrilled spectators in Florida by surging into contention at the Valspar Championship.

And Woods' last chance to apply real pressure vanished when he pushed his tee the par-5 17th right of the creek running along the right side of the hole. "I feel like, if I do what I'm supposed to, I should win the golf tournament", Koepka said. With only half of the 156 golfers finished with their second round, a heavy rain storm hit the course and suspended play at the PGA Championship until 7 AM Saturday morning.

Parker Solar Probe launches on mission to 'touch the sun'
Forty-three minutes after launch, the spacecraft jettisoned the spent upper stage and began flying on its own. Liftoff took place from Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in the U.S. early today.

Woods answered his bogey with an 11-foot birdie putt at the par-3 sixth and a seven-footer for birdie at the seventh, the crowds and buzz around him growing with every hole.

"Hopefully we can come back soon", Tiger said. He drained his longest putt of the tournament, a 19-footer putt for birdie, and pumped his fist to celebrate. Kopeka birdied the first two holes to take the lead. That's just the nature of the way it's playing right now. He also got robbed on No. 11 after leaving a birdie putt hanging on the edge of the cup.

Even with 17 players separated by three shots at one point on the front nine, everyone had to catch Koepka, Woods included.

After another errant drive on the 14th, the four-time PGA Championship victor suffered a costly bogey.

It left a sense of anti-climax, but Woods is still within reach of his 15th major, a situation few would have predicted at the start of a year which has seen the 42-year-old resurrect his career after debilitating injuries.
