Police ID gunman in fatal Jacksonville mass shooting

Jacksonville: police report 'multiple fatalities' in Florida mass shooting

The lone shooting suspect died at the Jacksonville Landing, where the shooting took place, Jacksonville County Sheriff Mike Williams said during a 4:30 p.m. press conference Sunday.

A gunman opened fire Sunday at an online video game tournament as it was being livestreamed from a Florida mall, killing two people and then fatally shooting himself in an attack that sent several others to hospitals, authorities said. The sheriff's office said 11 people were wounded by gunfire, and at least two others were injured while fleeing the scene.

Shortly after the shooting began, Jacksonville police took to Twitter to warn people in the area.

On Sunday evening, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said, its agents searched a family home of the man authorities believed was behind the attack.

Gaffney also mentioned a fatal shooting that took place in the city after a high school football game Friday night.

President Trump has not yet reacted to the incident, but his daughter Ivanka tweeted: "As we await further details, our hearts are with Jacksonville and all those affected by today's tragic mass shooting".

UF Health Jacksonville received six patients, including one in serious condition. Searches are being conducted, it said.

Authorities said they were unsure if there is a second suspect, but police appeared to be scouring the area by land, air and sea and have advised residents to stay away from the area.

A statement said: "Complexity is not one of the event organizers in Jacksonville".

The Jacksonville gaming event is part of the newly launched "Madden NFL 19 Championship Series" from EA Sports, the NFL and ESPN.

Authorities did not provide any other information. "As we continue to track developments, it's clear Congress must stop stalling & act to protect Americans from the daily tragedy of gun violence".

Williams said he is believed to be 24-year-old David Katz, a gamer whose name had circulated online as the gunman prior to the official update from law enforcement.

"I just heard shots and I looked at the window and I see him", Johnson said.

The Jacksonville Landing is an entertainment complex along the St. Johns River.
