Senator John McCain has died

McCain was selected as the Republican party's nominee and chose former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. He was severely injured and spent more than five years as a prisoner of war. "Our hearts and prayers are with you!" he wrote on his personal account.

McCain castigated Trump last month for his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, issuing a statement that called their joint news conference "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory".

President Trump, who has frequently criticized and even mocked the ailing senator, had kind words Saturday.

In a statement on Friday, the McCain family has said "the progress of the disease and the inexorable advance of age" led the USA senator to discontinue medical treatment.

Former rivals and Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush were asked to give eulogies, people close to both former presidents and a source close to the senator told CNN earlier this year. This time, he won the nomination and faced Barack Obama.

In Arizona, the topic of replacing McCain with Cindy to serve out the rest of his current term through 2022 became a topic of debate among Republican gubernatorial candidates. His passion and determination were unsurpassed in the U.S. Senate, and his moral compass was unfailing. Ann and I will miss him a great deal.

McCain was with his wife Cindy and their family when he passed in the afternoon, the statement said.

Ex-Trump lawyer investigated for $20 million bank fraud
However, that policy is not ironclad, and some have speculated that special counsel Robert Mueller might choose to circumvent it. Late Sunday night, it was reported that Michael Cohen is being investigated for "well over $20 million" in potential fraud.

Alabama leaders are expressing their condolences after the heartbreaking news of U.S. Senator John McCain's death on Saturday.

Meghan McCain, co-host of ABC's The View, mourned her late father with a moving tribute released via Twitter. All of us join Senator McCain's family and colleagues in taking pride in his legacy of selfless service, grit, and determination.

McCain, who had been receiving treatment in his home state of Arizona, was surrounded by his wife Cindy and his family during his final hours.

"...we shared, for all our differences, a fidelity to something higher - the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed", Obama said in his statement.

Obama writes that they "saw this country as a place where anything is possible - and citizenship as our patriotic obligation to ensure it forever remains that way". "With John's passing, they've lost a loving husband, father, and family member, and the country has lost a true American hero".

In September 2017, McCain said in a speech of Trump, "We are not the President's subordinates".

Former vice president Joe Biden, who developed a friendship with Mr McCain while they served together in the Senate, said the Arizona politician will "cast a long shadow".
