Aretha Franklin's funeral service in Detroit on Friday drew some of music's brightest stars and a sprinkling of political figures for a proper send-off.
Clinton said that before he and his wife were famous politicians, they were simply an "Aretha groupies".
"Nothing sounded better to me than the way my grandma sings", she added.
Jesse Jackson, former President Bill Clinton, and Al Sharpton are among the many who will be in attendance during Friday's service.
Franklin's homegoing celebration in Detroit, where she was raised, began Monday with a concert at her hometown church, followed by two days of public visitation at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and then another visitation Thursday at New Bethel Church.
Franklin's body was dressed all in gold, with a long sequin gown and high heels to match her gleaming gold casket.
Davis said Franklin was kind and thoughtful, genuinely amusing and had a great sense of humor. "I wanted to see what the girl was carrying out", Clinton said, to a wave of laughs and claps from the crowd.
Ellis III may need to be pop cultured. "This woman got us all here in these seats today, not because she had this breathtaking talent, which she did, not because she grew up as at least the princess of soul...but because she lived with courage".
According to the Detroit Free Press, the pink cars are part of Franklin's funeral procession being held at the Greater Grace Temple. That's a nod to her funky '80s tune of the same name that prominently featured the auto in the lyrics and video.
She continued, "When I would go to her shows and watch her sing it would be the best feeling in the world".
The speakers at Friday's invitation-only funeral at Detroit's Greater Grace Temple include former President Bill Clinton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Smokey Robinson. The Clark Sisters, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder were scheduled to perform.
"I remember when I was a kid people used to always ask me, 'What does it feel like to be Aretha Franklin's granddaughter?' " she said.
Following Franklin's death on August 16 at the age of 76, Trump paid tribute by saying, "She worked for me on numerous occasions". "We really celebrate because we really recognize that those we call the dearly departed, they wouldn't want for us to cry and be sad and sorrowful".
Friday's service will touch on Franklin's significance to her friends, family and fans, organizers told CNN. "And hopefully, a lot of people here with money and fame and influence and friends and notoriety and wealth, hopefully they will think of their mortality and say there is something bigger than fame, there is something bigger than Hollywood, something bigger than being a recording artist and selling gold albums or what have you".
