Kaepernick face of Nike's 30th 'Just Do It' ad

Colin Kaepernick

ESPN reporter Darren Rovell flagged the news after Kaepernick sent out this picture across social media, along with the phrase "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything".

Nike signed Kaepernick in 2011 but shielded him from public view while he protested from the sidelines.

Kaepernick posted the advert from his Twitter account on Monday followed by "JustDoIt".

"We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward", said Gino Fisanotti, a Nike vice president of brand for North America, according to ESPN.

Colin Kaepernick gets standing ovation at U.S. Open
Kaepernick tweeted a photo of his young niece with Serena and wrote, "Lani lost it when Serena surprised her after the match!" On Thursday, an arbitrator ruled Kaepernick had enough evidence for his suit to proceed in a trial-like format, New York .

Nike is the NFL's official uniform sponsor. He's now best known for kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality when he first took a knee in 2016.

Kaepernick filed a collusion grievance against the league in October, alleging an organized effort to keep him off a roster because of his protests during the national anthem in the 2016 season. Stephen B. Burbank, the arbitrator assigned to resolve disputes between the NFL and the NFL Players Association arising from the collective bargaining agreement, ruled last week against the NFL's request to dismiss the case.

Nike's campaign also includes ads featuring Serena Williams, Odell Beckham Jr. and Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who plays professional football despite missing one hand due to complications from amniotic band syndrome as a child.

Regardless of where you stand on Kaepernick, though, that the ad dropped just days before the new NFL season kicks off on Thursday night will surely cause a lot of conversation and probably a new headache for the league.
