British Airways suffers data breach, 380 000 payments compromised

HACKED British Airways said customers details have been stolen

This is not the first customer relations problem to affect the airline in recent times.

IAG said the stolen data did not include travel or passport details and British Airways was communicating with affected customers.

"We are 100 per cent committed to compensate them", BA chief executive Alex Cruz told BBC radio.

British Airways has said it will contact customers and will manage any claims "on an individual basis".

The airline discovered on Wednesday that bookings made between August 21 and September 5 had been infiltrated, according to Reuters.

British Airways on Thursday said it is investigating the theft of customer data from its website and mobile app servers.

British Airways said that police and other authorities have been notified.

"The moment we found out that actual customer data had been compromised, that's when we began an all out immediate communication to our customers".

BA said it was investigating the vast breach "as a matter of urgency", while the National Crime Agency and National Cyber Security Centre are also assessing the hack.

It issued guidance on how customers can reset the password on their online account. But what you do after you call the bank?

"We are working with partners to better understand this incident and how it has affected customers", a spokesperson said.

Also of concern is its reliability as a trusted airline.

The attack came 15 months after the carrier suffered a massive computer system failure at London's Heathrow airport, which stranded 75,000 customers over a holiday weekend.

Earlier this summer, BA cancelled dozens of cheap tickets sold to passengers by accident.

"I've not heard anything from them on this and I've just had to cancel the card I used". The airline has actually been working hard and succeeding of late, to reverse numerous recent cuts to in-flight service in an attempt to improve its public image.
