CBS fires '60 Minutes' producer Jeff Fager

'60 Minutes' executive producer Jeff Fager out at CBS

Jeff Fager, executive producer of CBS News' "60 Minutes", is leaving the company amid sexual harassment and assault accusations from several women.

In an internal memo, CBS News president David Rhodes said the departure was "not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports".

CBS News reporter Jericka Duncan said she received Fager's message after she started to work on a story about him on Sunday, following the posting of a New Yorker story with fresh allegations that were denied by Fager.

"On the day I officially parted company with CBS, the same day Mr. Moonves said he would only pay a tiny fraction of the penalties, my incredulous agent asked what he should tell me". It came only three days after CBS Corp. Rose had been a co-anchor since 2012 on "CBS This Morning" and a contributing correspondent on "60 Minutes".

Fager was ousted from CBS yesterday amid claims of his misconduct and creation of a sexist working environment. The writer/producer said it always seemed that the CBS boss enjoyed telling her he was turning her shows down and she later found out that he refused to give her scripts to any CBS stars he had under contract.

The investigation into Fager by an outside law firm is not complete.

"Over the years, even when an actress managed to get one of my scripts through an agent, the deal would immediately be killed".

In a July story in The New Yorker, journalist Ronan Farrow reported that six former employees told him that Fager would touch employees in ways that made them uncomfortable at company parties, and that in one instance he made a drunken advance toward one junior staffer.

Farrow continued reporting. He heard from additional women who lodged serious accusations against Moonves. "Similar frustrations about perceived inaction have prompted another woman to raise a claim of misconduct against Jeff Fager". In January, when rumors first began to swirl that there was a story coming out about the CEO, Moonves met with Michael J. Aiello, a lawyer hired by the network's board of directors, and he insisted that there were only a few incidents from before his time at CBS and nothing current for the network to worry about.

Rhodes' action against Fager also exacerbated the longstanding tensions between "60 Minutes" and the rest of the news division.

But when the LA Times followed up with a report that TV executive Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb had gone to cops a year ago, accusing Moonves of sexual and physical assault when they worked together in the 1980s - he admitted to the directors that he'd known about the police report but didn't tell the company because it was a "personal matter", the Times reports.
