Naomi Osaka Reveals What Serena Williams Told Her After Winning US Open

Ramos during the US Open final between Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka

According to the source, umpires are reportedly discussing the option of refusing match assignments that involve Williams until she apologises to Ramos for calling him a "liar" and "thief". "We do not believe that this was done last night", CEO Steve Simon said in a statement. She added that Ramos could have prevented the incident with clear communication.

She described Williams' behavior on court as "out of line".

At Flushing Meadows on Saturday, the 20-year-old was reduced to tears during the presentation ceremony but on her arrival back in Japan on Thursday, she said she had not been saddened by the incident.

The jeers mostly were a response to the controversy that overshadowed the match: The chair umpire assessed Williams a full game penalty after she berated him for accusing her of cheating by taking illegal coaching. "So, I was really happy that she said that", Osaka told Ellen DeGeneres."At the time I did think they were booing at me". As for why she felt the need to apologize for winning, well, Osaka still isn't sure. "The way Serena handled the situation, I think she handled it with such grace and class". That made Williams even more upset, and she berated Ramos repeatedly.

Williams was fined $17,000 in total: $10,000 for verbal abuse, $4,000 for the coaching violation, and $3,000 for racket abuse.

From there, Williams summoned the tournament referee to the court and said male tennis players are not punished for similar offences.

In a story that has transcended sports and become one of the biggest headlines in the country, Serena Williams supposed "screwjob" at the U.S. Open has turned into a much more complicated issue than simply an inquiry into the obscure rules of sportsmanship in the sport of tennis.

Tennis great John McEnroe, one of the game's most tempestuous characters in his playing days, said the sport must find a way to allow players to express feelings and inject their personality into the game while adhering to certain rules. "That is not right", she protested.

"The umpiring fraternity is thoroughly disturbed at being abandoned by the WTA", retired umpire Richard Ings told ESPN. Ings insisted that the "Umpires are just upset".

The umpiring community also had Ramos' back, as they have threatened to boycott Williams' matches.
