Nintendo will charge you to play Mario Kart online from next week

Nintendo is rolling out its Switch Online service next week

This week's Nintendo Direct will be a 35-minute showcase of upcoming 3DS and Switch games.

Nintendo's long-awaited online service finally has a launch date. Today, Nintendo detailed the firmware update that's coming along with the Switch Online launch, and it's making some changes that Switch owners should definitely know about. Nintendo Switch Online players will also get to enjoy 20 classic Nintendo games, with more to come. More details on the service will be announced at tomorrow's Nintendo Direct.

The service will cost $3.99 for one month, $7.99 for three, or $19.99 for 12.

If you have multiple Switch users on a single home system, you'll definitely want to check your account settings and make sure all the accounts are in order. Nintendo will also offer a family bundle for $34.99 that allows up to eight people to use the same subscription.

After postponing last week's Nintendo Direct due to the quake in Hokkaido, Japan, Nintendo has rescheduled the presentation for September 13. So far, the only games that will have online access revoked for non-Switch Online subscribers include: Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido.
