Plane passengers suffer nose & ear bleeding as crew ‘forgot’ to maintain cabin pressure

Nasal and ear bleeding of air passengers due to de-pressurisation of cabin is a rare occurrence, the two senior pilots who are working with two different airlines told PTI. The trauma caused something called mild conductive deafness or a limited loss of hearing in them. They are advised not to fly till then.

Passengers on a Jet Airways flight travelling from Mumbai to Jaipur today morning had a traumatic experience due to the irresponsibility of the crew. "There was no announcement (related to the problem) from the crew".

Air inside a plane flying at cruising altitude (about 36,000 feet above sea level) is usually pressurised to simulate conditions at about 8,000 feet, a healthy level although still high enough to inhibit the rate at which oxygen is carried in the blood. It was suffocating inside.

Recounting the ordeal, he said about 15 to 20 minutes after the takeoff, the oxygen masks got deployed from the overhead compartments but there was no instructions on whether to use it or not. Videos from the flight posted online showed passengers wearing oxygen masks, which automatically deploy if there is a drop in pressure.
