White House Not 'Micromanaging' Kavanaugh Probe

Christine Blasey Ford Brett Kavanaugh

In a tweet sent Saturday evening, President Trump may have undone limitations by his own White House placed on the FBI investigation allegations of sexual assault levied against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He made no further comment.

Ramirez recently revealed that Kavanaugh exposed his private parts to her during a party at Yale University when they were both undergraduate students.

Ramirez was the second woman to bring forward allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford alleged that Kavanaugh and a friend held her down and attempted to rape her at a party in high school. "The White House is not getting involved in the FBI investigation in that way", she said on CNN's "State of the Union".

The FBI is now conducting a supplemental background investigation "limited to current credible allegations" of sexual assault and misconduct against Kavanaugh, with a deadline of Friday to conclude its probe. Senators Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME forced the hands of Republican leaders in seeking the delay, because Kavanaugh must have the support of at least two of them to win confirmation in a chamber Republicans govern, 51-49.

President Donald Trump initially opposed such an investigation in the face of sexual misconduct claims against Kavanaugh, but the president and Senate Republican leaders agreed to an inquiry after GOP Sen.

Later that day, Trump ordered the investigation and that it be limited in scope and completed by next Friday.

In her Senate appearance Thursday, Ford lamented her foggy memory but offered up a clue - an encounter with Judge at a supermarket he worked at an estimated six to eight weeks after the alleged attack. But the biggest concern in the White House is that with more time, more women, more accusations and more stories could emerge.

Since the New Yorker interview, Ramirez has not spoken on the record to the media about her allegation, which Kavanaugh has denied.

College classmate claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at party
He said he "did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter ". Grassley released the letter on Monday , along with a letter from Kavanaugh himself in which he flatly denies Ford's allegations.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday afternoon said the supplemental FBI investigation would be limited to "current credible allegations".

The scope of the investigation that FBI agents will undertake now is unclear.

"How does the president... explain that she could be so credible and so specific in putting Kavanaugh and one of his best friends, Mark Judge, in that room?"

Lawmakers opposing Kavanaugh's nomination have put their focus on these allegations rather than two additional accusations that became public this week. Without their votes to confirm the judge, Trump and Republican leaders in the Senate had no choice but to request an Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry - a move Democrats had demanded for days.

Speaking to supporters at a rally Saturday night in Wheeling, West Virginia, Trump accused Democrats of using "ruthless and outrageous tactics" against Kavanaugh and urged voters to support Republicans in November's midterm elections. Several Republican leaders joined Flake in his promise, thus ensuring President Trump would order the FBI to investigate.

"I think something bad could have happened the same summer she and I were 15, and that Judge Kavanaugh was not involved", Conway said.

"I don't think any one of us can know 100 percent", Sanders remarked.
