More than 250 people worldwide have died taking selfies since 2011

More than 250 people worldwide have died taking selfies since 2011

More than half of those deaths happened in India, but Russian Federation, the USA and Pakistan filled out the top four.

The leading cause of death was drowning from people getting hit by waves or falling out of boats while posing.

"The selfie deaths have become a major public health problem", lead author Agam Bansal told the Post. In particular, the Interior Ministry released a special warning and a graphic poster called "Self Selfie" that reminded the public about the dangers of careless behavior and listed the sites where taking selfies was especially risky: roofs of tall buildings, trains and railroads and electric power mains.

According to the study, significantly more men suffered selfie-related deaths than women.

Seventy-two percent of victims were male and most were under the age of 30.

'Taking a toll on these many numbers just because you want a ideal selfie because you want a lot of likes, shares on Facebook, Twitter or other social media, I don't think this is worth compromising a life for such a thing'. Other steps could include new rules, controlling access with fences, or building safety features like railings near particular selfie-related death hotspots like the Catskills' Kaaterskill Falls.

Donald Trump: Voters Are 'REALLY ANGRY' over Democrats Mistreating Brett Kavanaugh
Collins, a Republican from ME , similarly condemned Trump's comments, telling CNN's Manu Raju they "were just plain wrong". President Trump reiterated his support for Mr Kavanaugh on Tuesday, saying he believed the Senate would approve the judge.

Really, though, you should pay attention to your surroundings and make sure the area is safe enough to take a selfie in. In September, an Israeli teenager visiting Yosemite National Park in California fell hundreds of feet to his death while trying to take a selfie near the top of an iconic waterfall. They were reportedly taking a selfie at the time.

In 2015, a report from Mashable claimed more people died from trying to take a selfie than from shark attacks.

Perhaps just as unsafe, or even more so, are selfies taken from elevated places.

The study defined a selfie-related death as any accidental death that occurs while someone either takes a selfie or is part of a selfie. Researchers behind the study say selfie-related deaths are very underreported.

Statistics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences showed 93 people were killed in 2017, and 98 died in 2016.

"But when people actually read in the newspaper that nearly more than 150 or 200 people are dying in the last couple of years, then they'll realise, 'OK, I should not take this much of risk just to take one picture'".
