Jamal Khashoggi: Saudi Arabia lets Turkey search consulate

Considered an authoritative voice on Saudi affairs, Khashoggi has also been a regular contributor on worldwide news outlets.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday asked Riyadh to prove its claim that Khashoggi had left the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, while Washington urged Saudi Arabia to support an investigation into his disappearance.

The Post said "a person close to the investigation" shared the image with them, without elaborating.

Saudi Arabia said the allegations were baseless.

Reports of Jamal Khashoggi being detained and killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul are "absolutely false and baseless", said Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the USA said in a statement. "We have some concrete information, it won't be an unresolved crime", the Middle East Eye reported.

Erdogan told reporters that authorities were examining camera footage and airport records as part of their investigation into the disappearance last week of Khashoggi, who had been increasingly critical of Saudi Arabia's rulers.

Instead of pursuing these angles, the mainstream US media is focussing on the minute details of Khashoggi's disappearance inside a Saudi consulate in Turkey, and giving too much space to unbelievable Saudi denials.

"We have to get an outcome from this investigation as soon as possible".

But if Khashoggi has joined the long list of Saudi critics whom the notoriously thin-skinned crown prince has punished, the time has come to decry his increasingly brutal, reckless behavior. It said Saudi Arabia sent a team of investigators to help look into the case.

Ankara has provided no evidence that Mr Khashoggi was killed in the building.

'Austerity is over': spending on public services to rise, says May
The Conservative Party has spent the conference showcasing its divisions and May was obligated to try to paper them over. If this is her rendition of unity, we'd all do best never to see what May's discord looks like.

Officials say the convoy left the consulate around two hours after Khashoggi entered.

Saudi Arabia has denied the accusations, saying it is "working to search for him".

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius recently noted that his friend Khashoggi had endured a crisis of conscience a year ago when MBS was jailing and torturing his Saudi friends.

She said Mr Khashoggi had been required to surrender his mobile phone, which is standard practice in some diplomatic missions. "We believe that the murder was premeditated and the body was subsequently moved out of the consulate", one of two Turkish officials told Reuters Saturday.

Calling the initial response on Khashoggi late and tepid, Margon said the Turkish example showed the Trump administration does "have the tools and the ability to respond quickly, so it's a question of willingness".

"What we do care about is Jamal's wellbeing, and revealing the truth about what occurred".

Protesters hold pictures of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi during a demonstration organized by Turkish-Arabic Media Association.

"Our country's values should be and must be a cornerstone of our foreign policy with foes and allies alike", he said. Among other things, as MBS told Bloomberg, the visit prompted Riyadh to commit to buying more than 60 percent of its weapons in the next decade from Washington.

Khashoggi is a familiar face on political talk shows on Arab satellite television networks and used to advise Prince Turki al-Faisal, former Saudi intelligence chief and ambassador to the United States and Britain. "Just met the Saudi ambassador to seek urgent answers over Jamal Khashoggi", U.K. foreign minister Jeremy Hunt said on Twitter.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has met ambassador Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf Al Saud to "seek answers", a day after Downing Street said the United Kingdom was "working urgently" to establish the facts behind the disappearance.
