Messages might brick your PlayStation 4

PS4 Update 6.02 System download TODAY New Sony Play Station update- here’s what it does

During the game, the team members were booted out of the game, after receiving a message on the PlayStation Network with an unrecognised character.

As noted, the user uses the term "bricks", incorrectly.

A new messaging bug can glitch up and soft-brick your PS4, forcing a factory reset.

Users have discussed the issue on the r/PS4 Reddit board, where they say they are receiving messages to their consoles through the console's messaging application, Kotaku reported. The bug, in some instances, has been used during matches to cause the opposing team to crash and be unable to complete a match. Some users went through the hassle of factory resetting their consoles to fix the problem, but Sony does have another method in place before a proper fix rolls out.

The first is to ensure that you set your incoming messages to enable just friends to contact you or no one at all. You can opt to receive messages only from your friends, or you can turn off messaging altogether.

Washington Cardinal Wuerl apologizes to faithful
Wuerl had submitted his resignation to Francis almost three years ago, when he turned 75, the normal retirement age for bishops. Those factors led to calls for Cardinal Wuerl's resignation and demonstrations outside of his Washington residence.

Reddit user iamnotacrazyperson said: Happened to me in RL too. Sony has offered no indication of when it will issue a fix to prevent the rogue message from bricking consoles.

From a web browser, visit the PSN Privacy setting page, then sign in with your PS4 account credentials.

Before we go any further: To set you PlayStation account to private, fire up your console and head to the Settings menu.

What do you think about PlayStation having such an exploit in their system? As a reminder, Sony has disabled the ability to send the offending characters, so it's unlikely anyone will be affected from here on out.
