China Not Ready for a Deal Yet, Says Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump believes that he is "being very tough" in talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the U.S. leader said in an interview with CBS television channel.

US President Donald Trump said in an interview aired by CBS on Sunday that he believes that China is more risky than Russian Federation, in regards to "election meddling".

Trump's remarks came in an interview with CBS News's 60 Minutes programme in which he also said China meddles in U.S. elections, that the trade war with China was actually a "skirmish" and that he doesn't think climate change is a hoax, but remains doubtful of who or what caused it.

The US president was responding to criticism that he has not criticised Mr Putin enough in public during an interview with the CBS show 60 Minutes which was broadcast in full on Sunday.

During a recent interview with Fox News Sunday, Cui Tiankai, China's ambassador to the USA, said that China has grown frustrated in trade talks due to conflicting signals from the Trump administration. "I had a meeting with him, the two of us", Trump said, referring to his much-criticised summit with the Russian leader in which he declined at a press conference to endorse the U.S. government's assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

"I was very honoured to be present at the meetings between the two presidents, both at Mar-a-Lago in April a year ago, and in Beijing last November", Cui said in the Fox News interview taped on Friday.

The Fox News host then asked Cui to respond to the claim by Trump on Tuesday, during his Make America Great Again rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa, that the US loses $300 to $500 billion every year due to the "terrible, disgusting" trade deal with China.

Looking to next month's meeting between Trump and Xi, Cui said it was clear from previous meetings between the two leaders that "such top-level communication played a key role, irreplaceable role, in guiding the relationship forward".

In the October 14 segment that included some testy exchanges, network reporter Lesley Stahl sat down with Trump for her third such interview with him. "I don't think they want to be healed". Trump said. He added, "And I think, frankly, China is a bigger problem".

"China voted for all existing sanctions, and we have implemented all the United Nations resolutions - we have implemented them faithfully".

When it comes to the trade tensions, Cui reiterated that the USA had benefited a great deal from its trade with China and that Washington started the trade war. Later, Colbert asked to "go back to that lying thing again", saying, "Why do you think you get away with your unprecedented mountain of lies?"

Trump replied: "Probably he is, yeah. When I say, 'Obama did it, ' you don't want to talk about it". If he won't deal with the realities of climate change (presented in this interview only in anecdotal terms of ice and hurricanes and in data, never explained, from "NOAA and NASA", and not the recent, catastropic United Nations report) or of abandoning North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the broadcaster should rush in to fill the gap.

According to Larry Kudlow, the White House economic director, there is a high chance that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping might meet at the summit and clarify their agendas. I don't think it's a hoax, I think there's probably a difference.
