Melania Trump Visits Newborn Victims of Opioid Crisis Following Plane Malfunction

Smoke forces first lady Melania Trump’s plane to turn around en route to Philadelphia

According to TV reporters travelling with the first lady, the original flight was in the air about 10 minutes when smoke filled the cabin.

Melania Trump's flight was cut short Wednesday morning when her plane suffered a "mechanical issue" that pumped smoke into the main cabin.

Reports from inside the plane say Secret Service officers hopped up from their seats and rushed toward the front of the plane.

The plane, a Boeing C-32A, landed safely. FLOTUS is still going to Philadelphia later today, on a different plane, said Grisham.

The First Lady of the President of the USA was aboard the flight to Philadelphia which was forced to returned to base in Maryland. Everyone on board the plane was reportedly provided with wet towels to place over their faces if the smell got to strong to handle.

The First Lady's communications director Stephanie Grisham said in a statement that the cause of the smoke was a "minor mechanical issue".

She'll be visiting Thomas Jefferson University hospital to meet with families of children who were affected by exposure to opioids while in the womb.

In May, Trump launched her BE BEST awareness campaign, which is centered around children's health.
