Putin says Russian Federation will target nations hosting U.S. missiles

President Donald Trump addresses a

"If the United States does withdraw from the INF treaty, the main question is what they will do with these newly available missiles", Putin said at a press conference alongside Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

Adam Ni, a researcher on Chinese foreign and security policy at the Australian National University, said America's withdrawal from the treaty would have a significant effect on the military balance between the United States and China, especially if a conflict broke out, as it could deploy intermediate ground-based missile systems in Asia.

Ushakov explained that both Presidents will hold the bilateral meeting after the celebration events in Paris.

Washington will press ahead with a plan to quit a landmark nuclear arms control pact despite objections from Russia and some European countries, senior United States official John Bolton said on Tuesday, after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian leader joked that the U.S. seal showed an eagle carrying olives branches and arrows. Laughing, Putin asked if the eagle ate all the olives. Now he is pushing President Donald Trump down the stairs, urging him to pull out of Ronald Reagan's landmark INF Treaty. And it includes Russian Federation.

Feng Yukon, a professor at China's Fudan University, said in the past few years the pact has existed in name only as both Moscow and Washington have accused each other of not complying with the treaty.

Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Tuesday that right now "there are no prospects for a new deal" to replace the INF and that it is a "dangerous position" to give up the INF treaty without an alternative in sight.

HuffPost: "Trump: U.S. Will "Build Up" Nuclear Arsenal Until Other Nations "Come To Their Senses" - "President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States plans to increase it's already massive nuclear arsenal, a move that could start another arms race".

Russian Federation has said it will be forced to respond in kind if the U.S. leaves the treaty and starts to develop new missiles.

Signed in 1987 by U.S. president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, it bans missiles that can travel distances of between 500 and 5,500 kilometres.

The landmark IRNF treaty, signed by America and Russian Federation in 1987, eliminated all nuclear and conventional missiles, as well as their launchers, with ranges of 500-1,000 kilometres (310-620 mi) (short-range) and 1,000-5,500 km (620-3,420 mi).

"But Trump also hinted that another country played a role, one that it isn't even party to the treaty: China".

The US claims that Russian Federation is violating the INF deal by building missiles that it prohibits.

In his first remarks since Washington announced on Saturday that it planned to pull out of the INF Treaty, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg lay blame on Russian Federation for violating the treaty by developing the SSC-8, a land-based, intermediate-range Cruise missile which also has the name of Novator 9M729.

Mr Stoltenberg was speaking after US President Donald Trump said on Monday he was ready to build up the US nuclear arsenal in response to Russia's SSC-8 missile programme (known in Russian Federation as the 9M729).

The warning from Moscow comes on the heels of US National Security Advisor John Bolton's visit to Moscow.

Earlier Wednesday, the Kremlin said it was ready to discuss the possibility of a summit between Putin and Trump in Washington next year.

Meanwhile, Russia's deputy foreign minister Sergey Ryabkov also expressed concerns on Wednesday about the Trump administration's intention to withdraw from the INF Treaty, calling it an "alarming moment".

Shoigu also said in comments carried by Russian news agencies on Tuesday that Russia and the US also should build up on their cooperation in Syria.
