'Celtic can beat Leipzig at home', says Rodgers

Scott Sinclair came off the bench to open the scoring

Midfielders Scott Brown, Tom Rogic and Youssouf Mulumbu are all injured and have been ruled out, while winger James Forrest is suspended.

"It's unfortunate we have so many injuries but it's not the fault of the players".

CRAIG GORDON insists Celtic will just have to cope with the absence of some of their big stars against RB Leipzig on Thursday.

"Those three are good players but Celtic are a club that is well known across Europe for not letting players go for a bargain". If we are going to have any aspiration of getting through the group, it's a game first and foremost we have to win.

"They have been working hard in training".

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes Hearts will not have an on-field advantage when they play in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Murrayfield on Sunday.

"We have stabilised the team in recent weeks, we have been performing well and this gives them a chance to show how well they have been training".

Leipzig are fifth in the Bundesliga and unbeaten in six games in all competitions, so they represent a stern test for Brendan Rodgers' men.

Germany global Marvin Compper - who the Bhoys signed from Leipzig - has played just once since his arrival after struggling with fitness issues and is unlikely to be considered for a starting place.

Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick believes the two sides are playing for second place in their Europa League section.

Both teams have won one and lost one in the Europa League so far, with Leipzig ahead in Group B on goal difference.

"I don't think he would ever say that publicly and nor do I think that he will really focus too much on anything other than ensuring Celtic get to eight this season, but the bottom line for me is that he is motivated and happy at his work". They don't play typically kick and rush type of Scottish football.

They were unable to get back to winning ways in Leipzig, however, as Matheus Cunha and Bruma scored in the opening half for the hosts.
