Synagogue shooter tended to by Jewish doctors, nurses

Synagogue shooter tended to by Jewish doctors, nurses

More than 1,800 people, some from across the United States, came to pay respects to relatives of David Rosenthal, 54, and Cecil Rosenthal, 59, at Rodef Shalom, another synagogue in the Squirrel Hill district that forms the heart of the city's Jewish community.

"His sole focus is on the funerals", McNulty told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Before Trump's arrival on Tuesday, a crowd of protesters blocked the entrance to the city's Republican club, over the party's purported failure to denounce white supremacism.

When Trump arrives, he is expected to meet with members of the local Jewish community. This would be like desecrating those people who were killed.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, a Democrat, told reporters ahead of the announcement that the White House should consult with the families of the victims about their preferences and asked that the president not come during a funeral.

Bennett said that Trump's condemnation of antisemitism after the shooting, including his vow to destroy those seeking to harm Jews, "was the strongest condemnation of antisemitism that I have ever heard from a politician outside the State of Israel".

The first funerals for the victims of the attack also were held on Tuesday.

Another Squirrel Hill resident, Shayna Marcus, who had hoped to catch the presidential motorcade with her young sons but just missed it, said the anger at Trump is misplaced.

"It's part of his programme to instigate his base", Mr Werber said, and "bigots are coming out of the woodwork".

Turkish President Erdoğan urges Saudi prosecutor to probe who ordered Khashoggi hit
Khashoggi, 59, had entered the diplomatic compound to obtain paperwork for his marriage to his Turkish fiancee Hatice Cengiz. He has denounced the murder as "repulsive" and strongly denied any involvement.

Jewish leaders in Pittsburgh, affiliated with the progressive group Bend the Arc, penned an open letter telling the president to stay away until he made overtures to certain communities, including those of the Jewish faith.

The Pittsburgh shooting spree came in the same week that authorities arrested an ardent Trump supporter from Florida on suspicion of mailing more than a dozen homemade bombs to opponents and critics of the president.

Earlier in the day, thousands of mourners jammed a synagogue, a Jewish community centre and a third, undisclosed site for the first in a weeklong series of funerals for victims of the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in US history.

"This is not just seeing awful images; this is getting a phone call that your aunt was murdered while she was praying in the Shabbat morning service", he said.

"The president wants in moments where our country is hurting like we've seen in the last several days to find ways to bring the country together", she said. "I'm an advocate for concealed carry in things like this and maybe that's what the Jewish community needs to do".

President Trump plans to travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday afternoon, as the city continues to mourn Saturday's massacre that claimed the lives of 11 worshippers at a synagogue. "You can't on one hand say we should talk to each other, and then I don't talk to him".

"I'm a citizen. He's my president".

"You can protest later on", she added.
