Mother reunited with son 31 years after allegedly abducted by his father

Mother reunited with son 31 years after his abduction in Toronto tells others to never give up hope

Lyneth Mann-Lewis said she never stopped believing her son was out there, and today feels the "utmost happiness" to be reunited with him - 31 years after he was allegedly abducted by his father and brought to the U.S.

In 1987, the two-year-old son of Lyneth Mann-Lewis was taken away, allegedly by the boy's father.

He and his father lived under assumed names in the USA until late last week, when his father was caught allegedly using falsified documents.

It was the night before she was to be reunited with the son who'd gone missing more than three decades ago.

Mann grew up believing that his mother had died shortly after his birth and remained unaware of his true identity or how he had entered the country until Friday, when USA marshals took his father into custody.

Over the weekend, his mother, Lyneth Mann-Lewis, flew to the USA for their reunification on Monday. He also faces charges in the U.S, including making false statements in transactions with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Mr. Mann will be extradited to Canada to face a charge of abduction, Toronto police say. The father had told the son his mother was dead.

"We had fun, his friends stopped by and I cooked for him". "Be patient, be strong, and believe that all things are possible and that anything can transpire".

On Friday morning, Mann-Lewis was about to board a flight to visit her long-lost son, but the flight was cancelled and she had to arrange another flight. Investigators said Jermaine, not even 2 years old, had been taken by his father after a court-ordered visit in Toronto.

"They lived, basically, a life of lies as to who they were and what they did, unbeknownst to Jermaine", Toronto Police Det.

Banks did not offer particulars of the American investigation, but said it led to the arrest of Allan Mann Jr. on Friday.

"'Oh, mommy, you have my eyes, '" she said of his first words to her.

US federal agents say Mann Jr. was arrested on Friday in CT, where he and Jermaine had been living under aliases in a quiet suburb near Hartford. "He doesn't like to eat meat but I bought chicken and asked him, 'What am I going to do with it now?'" Mann-Lewis said.

Amanda Pick, the CEO of the Missing Children Society of Canada, called Lyneth Mann-Lewis "a tower of strength and perseverance". A forensic specialist from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children compared a photo of Allan Mann to the CT driver's license for DeSouza and determined they were the same person.

The investigation has involved multiple US agencies as well as Toronto police and the RCMP.

Canada's national missing persons registry now lists 165 people who disappeared as children. We did, I'm going to guess, 3,000 to 4,000 interviews. He and Ms Mann-Lewis had separated the year before. "I am the proof that after 31 long years of suffering one should never give up", she was quoted as saying by CBC News.

Local media reported that the son sobbed quietly in the front row with his head in his hands and left the courthouse without commenting.
