Pentagon sending 5,200 troops to border week before midterms

A United States official said yesterday that in addition to 5,200 troops deployed to the southwest border with Mexico, the Pentagon has put 2,000 to 3,000 other active-duty troops on standby in case they also are needed.

The Pentagon says it will send 5,000 USA troops to the border.

The massive chain of migrants slowly making its way towards the USA southern border, which is still some 1,000 miles north, is now demanding that the Mexican government provide transportation for its estimated 4,000 participants - demands issued amid reports of outbreaks of violence as more groups have forced their way through Mexico's southern border.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump has been trying to focus on the caravan just a week before the midterm elections.

The Homeland Security and Defense Departments announced the deployment of thousands of troops to the Southwest U.S. border in anticipation of the arrival of large migrant caravans.

Inside the United States, of course, a network of subversive leftist "resettlement" groups await the invasion force, hoping to provide sanctuary, then push the illegal aliens into jobs, the public schools and then onto welfare.

"If you wanna wait, they don't usually get asylum".

The new group, whose members called themselves a second caravan, gathered on the worldwide bridge leading from Tecun Uman to Mexico.

"We are also aware of a second large group of migrants at the Ciudad Hidalgo border crossing between Guatemala and Mexico".

Three helicopters will be deployed and enough barbed wire will be made available to cover 150 miles of the border.

The "Military is waiting for you!" the president also tweeted.

"According to what they say, we are not going to be very welcome at the border", Honduran migrant Levin Guillen said when asked about Trump.

He echoed Trump administration concerns about the caravan and compared the border support mission to other domestic military missions, like hurricane relief.

Before Gen O'Shaughnessy spoke at Monday's news conference, US Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin McAleenan told reporters the migrants were estimated to be several weeks away from reaching the US border.

Earlier in the day, members of the caravan strung out along the highway outside the city of Tapanatepec, some waiting for rides while others plodded toward their goal for the day: Niltepec, about 34 road miles (54 kilometers) to the northwest. But any migrants who complete the long trek to the southern USA border already face major hurdles - both physical and bureaucratic - to being allowed into the United States. That followed a more violent confrontation on the border bridge over the river Sunday night, when migrants threw rocks and used sticks against Mexico police.

He added that asylum seekers would remain in detention while their claims were being processed, a move which he said would deter would-be applicants from coming to the US.

They will bring border personnel "exactly where they need to be, regardless of the conditions", O'Shaughnessy said. They are mostly from Honduras, where it started, as well as El Salvador and Guatemala.
