Crash That Killed 3 Girl Scouts, Mother Allegedly Result Of ‘Huffing’

Emergency medical personnel gather at the scene of a hit-and-run accident Saturday Nov. 3 2018 in Lake Hallie Wisconsin that killed three girls and an adult

Police identified the victims as Jayna S. Kelley, 9; Autum A. Helgeson, 10, both of Lake Hallie; Haylee J. Hickle, 10, and her 32-year-old mother, Sara Jo Schneider, both of Lafayette.

Authorities have not released the names of the girls or the woman who were struck by the truck on November 3 in Lake Hallie, or the name of a fourth girl who survived but was in critical condition at a Minnesota hospital.

Two small groups of Girl Scouts, aged around nine and 10, were collecting rubbish on both sides of a country road north of the Chippewa County village of Lake Hallie, along with two adult supervisors.

Chippewa Falls school district officials said Treu had attended the same school district as the victims.

The head of Girl Scouts of the US says "our hearts are broken" after three Girl Scouts and an adult were struck and killed in what authorities say was a hit-and-run crash along a rural Wisconsin highway.

Police say 21-year-old Colten Treu (TROO) had been inhaling chemical vapors before crashing his truck into the group as they picked up trash along a rural Wisconsin highway in Lake Hallie. The driver, Colten Treu, sped away, but later surrendered to authorities.

As a western Wisconsin community grieves the deaths of three Girl Scouts and a parent who were struck by a pickup truck, authorities still haven't released the names of the victims or a fourth girl who survived.
