Federer's quest for 100th title goes through Djokovic

Djokovic, who will regain his world No.1 ranking next week, faces Federer on Sunday morning (1.30am AEST) after the Swiss great's comfortable 6-4 6-4 win over Kei Nishikori to move a step nearer to winning his 100th career title.

Khachanov, at 22 another of the sport's brightest prospects, took ruthless advantage of the 21-year-old German's physical struggles as Zverev, battling with shoulder trouble, needed a medical time out in the first set at 4-1 down.

Twelve straight holds would send the first set into a tiebreak, which Djokovic won after Federer squandered a set point.

Khachanov will now rise to a career-high world No 11 when the rankings are updated on Monday and overtakes Borna Coric as the second alternate for next week's ATP Finals in London.

Djokovic will replace Rafael Nadal as the world's top player on Monday after a two-year absence.

He then made the most of a third break point in the third game of the second set with a running forehand victor, before holding his nerve to serve out the match.

The 31-year-old, now unbeaten in 22 matches, is a four-time victor of the Paris Masters.

"I'm getting into the season finale with a lot of confidence and feeling good about my game".

It is twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in the USA and is built on Sadhu Bet, an islet near the Sardar Sarovar Dam. Modi described the statue as "an answer to all those who question the existence of India".

Stefanos Tsitsipas was the last man to consign the 14-time grand slam champion to defeat at the Rogers Cup back in August and it was 22-year-old Khachanov striking another blow for youth over experience, claiming the biggest title of his career in Bercy. In the 2013 semifinals, he bounced back from a set down to beat the Swiss, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

"To finish the season like this is really a dream come true", said Khachanov.

Djokovic is seeking a record-extending fifth Paris Masters title, while Khachanov will be making his first appearance in a Masters 1000 final.

"I think both of us were far from our best, but we fought with what we had and at the end I think I maybe served a bit better in the important moments than Fabio did", said Federer who was playing his first match of the week after second round opponent Milos Raonic withdrew on Wednesday.

"It was a very intense match", Djokovic said.

Yet even though the Serb admitted he had not recovered physically after his epic three-hour win over Roger Federer in Saturday's semi-final, he had nothing but praise for the outstanding quality of Khachanov's attacking game.

"The second thing is after some tough loses against top guys like Rafa in NY, I think they push me to the limit and even to work more harder".
