Scott Recuses Himself From Certifying Florida Recount Results

A device is used to straighten ballots before machine counting during a recount at the Broward County Supervisor of Elections office in Lauderhill Florida on Nov 11 2018

His luxury Mar-a-Lago estate, dubbed the "winter White House", is in Palm Beach and he has many business associates there.

In another development, the Florida Department of State asked federal prosecutors to review altered forms given to voters in Broward and at least three other counties seeking to resolve issues with mail-in ballots.

Klock, who served as the top attorney to then-Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris during the 2000 recount, said on Outnumbered Overtime that Florida voters have no confidence in Snipes' office. Close races - even those that trigger recounts - are not unprecedented or unusual, said Marian Schneider, president of election integrity nonprofit Verified Voting. Bucher told multiple news outlets that the county flew in mechanics to work on the machines.

A sworn affidavit from a Democratic field worker, which was included with the memo, stated that the machines "have degraded as the recount has proceeded, breaking more often now than at the beginning of this process". And when the totals were added up on Tuesday, they didn't match. Democrats have alleged that Scott has improperly tried to use his authority as governor to influence the recount, which could decide his political future. In their motion, Detzner's attorneys argued that the case should be heard in federal court because Bonfiglio said that his USA constitutional rights under the Fifth and 14th Amendments had been violated.

"She was writing the order when the removal petition was filed". That includes The Daily Show's Trevor Noah, who on Tuesday's show took several shots at how she has screwed up.

But about two hours before she finished writing the order, Detzner's attorney filed their federal motion arguing that because Bonfiglio argues his US constitutional rights under the Fifth and 14th Amendments were violated, the case should be heard in federal court. Bill Nelson that is the subject of an ongoing recount.

Mr Nelson's campaign sent a video statement on Friday in which the senator said: "Scott is trying to stop all the votes from being counted and he's impeding the democratic process". Republicans have responded by contending that Democrats want to bend or skirt existing election laws to alter the outcome.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, the GOP candidate running to unseat incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, will reportedly recuse himself from overseeing the results of his own election.

Ah ... seems like old times, right? "And I think if you asked the voters, you'd find that I have that reputation".

For example, in Republican-dominated Bay County, Elections Supervisor Mark Andersen accepted 147 ballots by email, even though that's barred by state law. "If 66 of 67 counties are able to complete the deadline, should they all be held up?"

Workers are working around the clock to count the vote, but Bucher has already said they will not meet the state's Thursday deadline to report the recounted votes. State law enforcement and elections officials have said no fraud complaints have been filed. Acknowledging that his loss may remain unchanged, Gillum made an "uncompromising and unapologetic call that we count every single vote". "In Douglas County what that would mean is up to two days of counting, and we'd have to bring in additional help", he said. It's un-American. Attempts to bully, threaten and cajole officials into not counting every vote is a large and risky step away from the democracy we all cherish. "This shouldn't happen. This is an embarrassment". "We have a unique situation where the races are so unbelievably tight". Another had to restart its recount after getting about a quarter finished because someone forgot to push a button.

While a federal judge sorts out all of the competing lawsuits, what's to be done about Palm Beach County? If the deadline is not met in a race, the results it reported last Saturday will stand. "Wait until these counts are over and there'll be time to litigate". "Candidates refuse to wait to finish the darn election before they starting forming opinions and make accusations". Broward blamed its lengthy ballot, which included 10 county charter amendments, while Palm Beach blamed aging voting equipment.
