River Vs Boca - Postponed Final Set To Cause Scheduling Nightmare

Boca had previously requested the game be postponed, saying: "Club Atletico Boca Juniors made a formal presentation to Conmebol on Sunday to request that the final of the Copa Libertadores be played in conditions of equality".

The game had originally been scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed by 24 hours when River fans ambushed the coach as it made its way to El Monumental Stadium, Buenos Aires, throwing missiles which smashed windows and injured players inside.

A fresh call to postpone the clash has raised doubts over when, how, where and in what conditions the game could be played, questions which have so far remained unanswered.

"This country is not ready for a Boca-River final", journalist Andres Burgo said before the first leg, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

"After the acts of violence suffered in the vicinity of the stadium, Boca. requests the suspension of the game, as well as the application of the corresponding sanctions provided in Article 18", Boca said in a statement on their website.

Boca fans could not attend the final at the Monumental de Nunez Stadium because of a 2013 ban on away fans in Argentina.

Mauricio Macri, a former president of Boca Juniors, is due to hold bilateral meetings with Theresa May and Donald Trump during the G20 summit. Perez had injuries to his arms and an eye, according to images of Boca's locker room shared on social media. "We want both teams to have time to recover". We've only just been able to breathe well because we were affected by the gas.

South American football's governing body took the decision after Boca called earlier on Sunday for a postponement and demanded that River face punishment, suggesting a series of measures including forfeiting the match.

The first leg on November 11 ended 2-2 at Boca's La Bombonera Stadium.

Three years ago, a round-of-16 tie between River and Boca in the Copa Libertadores was abandoned at half-time after Boca fans attacked River players with pepper spray in the tunnel.

Ahead of the rearranged match, CONMEBOL chief Dominguez had urged for the showdown to go off without any more trouble.

This messy scenario has cast a negative light on what should have been the most historic Superclásico and the most historic Copa Libertadores final of all time.

Boca president Daniel Angelici and River counterpart Rodolfo D'Onofrio will meet with CONMEBOL to discuss a date for the third attempt at playing the match.
