Much of Mexican border crisis 'caused by Trump' - activist

Many of the migrants are women and children. But according to President Trump keeps talking about how he believes the migrants are stone cold criminals

The New York Times reports that what started as a peaceful march by Central American migrants waiting at the border devolved when a group rushed the crossing into the United States.

"Entering our country illegally, particularly over our walls is not only unsafe, but also very foolish", San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said in a written statement.

On Monday, pedestrian crossings were suspended at the San Ysidro port of entry at both the east and west facilities, and all northbound and southbound traffic was halted.

Footage from weekend border chaos included video images of mothers and toddlers rushing to avoid tear gas and/or pepper spray released from USA border officials into Mexico territory as means to disperse Central American migrants amassing at the border.

Scott said that of the 42 arrests made Sunday, only eight were of females, "and there were only a few children involved".

Migrants were offered temporary asylum under the program while they were in southern Mexico, but most migrants rejected the offer. "That's a different issue".

Amazon says customer information was exposed in data breach
The email went on to explain that "there is no need for you to change your password or take any other action ". According to Amazon , neither its website nor its back-end systems were compromised by the glitch.

"If they were truly asylum seekers, they would have just walked up with their hands up and surrendered, and that did not take place", Scott said.

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the caravans in Mexico and to make another pitch for his promised border wall. They were among the estimated 7,500 from Central America who are being housed in Tijuana, mostly in a makeshift shelter in a sports arena.

"DHS (Department of Homeland Security) will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons", she said. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) accused the Trump administration of failing to follow the guidelines. He tweeted as an example a 2013 article from the San Diego Union-Tribune saying border patrol agents used pepper spray against a group of about 100 migrants who threw rocks and bottles at agents.

Irineo Mujica has traveled with the migrants for weeks as a representative of the aid group Pueblo Sin Fronteras.

Around 500 men, women and children, part of a caravan of roughly 5,000 mainly Hondurans who have been trekking towards the USA for weeks, scrambled over a rusted metal fence and surged into a concrete riverbed towards San Diego on Sunday. He has insisted that each person seeking asylum wait on Mexico's side of the border until their application is processed and their case decided. Police blocked the migrants from walking toward the border in the morning, though later on they allowed them to move about freely.

"They came to support the Tijuana police so that there's a stronger presence, and the migrants don't try to do what they did yesterday", said Victor Coronel, head of migrant affairs at the Tijuana municipal police.
