Coaching Legend Mack Brown Returning to Sidelines at North Carolina

According to the report, the decision to hire Brown will be announced on Tuesday as the 67-year-old starts putting together a coaching staff.

Brown compiled a record of 69-46-1 during his first stint as North Carolina's head coach from 1987-97.

Since he left Texas, Brown has entered into broadcasting and is now a college football analyst for ESPN.

He left North Carolina for the University of Texas, where he led the Longhorns to 15 bowl games in 16 years and the 2005 national championship. "We can't to wait to meet our current student-athletes and reconnect with friends, alumni and fellow Tar Heel coaches". Fedora did wear out his welcome in Chapel Hill, NC, hence the move to bring someone aboard like Brown.

The Swede limped off at the end of Saturday's draw and missed Monday's training, and will undergo a scan on Tuesday. I want to play this game like a knockout game, like we have to win.

Recruiting has also slid along with fan attendance at Kenan Stadium.

But Brown turned things around once before with the Tar Heels, who hope he can do it again. Over his final two seasons in Chapel Hill, Brown's UNC squads went a combined 20-3. The Tar Heels won 10 games in 1993, then went 10-2 and finished No. 10 in the AP poll in 1996. Led UNC to two top-10 final rankings and Texas to seven top-10 final rankings.

On Sunday, Tom Luginbill, an ESPN college football analyst, and Kirk Bohls, a longtime columnist at the Austin American-Statesman, each indicated that Brown could be the next man in line for the vacant head coaching job at North Carolina, where he was the head coach at for 10 seasons prior to being hired at Texas in December 1997. In addition to UNC and Texas, he coached one season at Appalachian State and three at Tulane.
