Twitter goof snares Trump lawyer/cyber advisor Giuliani

As of December 5, the tweet and the link are both still live.

Velazquez's webpage consists of two elements, displayed the message that Giuliani described as "disgusting": "Donald J. Trump is a traitor to our country" and carrying a link to coverage of Mueller's investigation.

Giuliani responded on Tuesday - four days later - by tweeting a confused attack on Twitter management claiming the platform was responsible for allowing hackers to "invade my text with a disgusting anti-President message" (emphasis added).

By the time Giuliani, who heads the Giuliani Partners cyber security consulting firm, took notice Tuesday of the error, his tweet became one of his most-ever liked, forwarded and commented upon. He was referring to a November 30 tweet in which Giuliani - by failing to put a space after a period, and starting the next sentence with the word "In" - had inadvertently created a hyperlink. He said that he tested a period not followed by a space after he sent the original tweet out and no link was created.

"I thought, 'I could just buy this and put whatever I want on it, '" Velazquez told NBC.

Despite all of Giuliani's tinfoil hat protestations, the Trump lawyer is not the victim of a malicious bias from Twitter.

Once he even told reporters he had toured a rural New Hampshire hospital where a woman rumoured to be his mistress worked to learn about its cybersecurity program.

"Time Magazine also may fit that description", Giuliani concluded. He shared what he had done on Twitter, writing, "Rudy didn't separate g-20 from.in so ya boy bought the domain".

A Twitter spokesman said the company can't edit users' tweets and "the accusation that we're artificially injecting something into a tweet is completely false". Thanks to the fact that '.in" is the top-level domain name for India, the construction "G-20.In' formed a nonsensical but entirely web address.

While he now works as a legal advisor to the White House, Trump originally brought Giuliani in as a cybersecurity advisor. But he tried to post a tweet with.rudygiuliani, for instance, it wouldn't create a link. Giuliani said Mueller had done similar in July as Trump left for a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, and that the actions could have been easily taken earlier or later.
