Ruth Bader Ginsburg's lung surgery is her 3rd cancer treatment since 1999

Ruth Bader Ginsburg speaks at an event during the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah Jan. 21 2018

"Justice Ginsburg was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is recuperating at home", Kathy Arberg, public information officer for the Supreme Court, told reporters in an email Wednesday.

Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg poses for the official photo at the Supreme Court in Washington, DC on November 30, 2018. Court officials say she has nearly fully recovered from her ordeal, and the Supreme Court will return for business on January 4.

Ginsburg, despite the health issues, has never missed oral arguments.

Leftist documentary maker Michael Moore showcased his Christmas spirit this week by sticking a Ginsburg doll on top of his Christmas tree. Ginsburg, the leader of the court's liberal wing and known to her fans as the Notorious RBG, has achieved an iconic status rare for Supreme Court justices. Last month, she cracked three ribs in a fall at the court.

If she were to step down, President Donald Trump would select her successor, which would continue to shift the court in a conservative direction.

Liverpool's Christmas lead in Premier League no title guarantee - Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool have dropped just six points so far this season, but Klopp says his side can not afford to start getting carried away. The landscape got even better for the Reds on Saturday when Crystal Palace stunned their title rivals Manchester City 3-2.

While it's hard to refer to good luck and cancer diagnoses in the same breath, this is the second time for Ginsburg that cancerous growths have been detected at an apparently early stage through unrelated medical tests. She previously fought pancreatic cancer and has had heart surgery. And there were already signs that her recovery was going smoothly.

No further treatment is planned.

The court next meets on January 7. In 2014, doctors placed a stent in her right coronary artery to improve blood flow.

Ginsburg is one of the four liberal members of the Supreme Court, and is somewhat of an icon among progressives. She was released from a hospital the next day.
